The year was 1926 and the month of November when the St. Paul Zonta Club was formed. For 81 years Our Club has the prestigious honor of providing services continuously which recognize, support and benefit women in our community.

             Nine years ago our first in a series of events that celebrated our 75 years of existence was the placement of a Gateway Stepping Stone at the Pedestrian Gateway, through the levee at Water Street, in the Harriet Island Regional Park across from downtown St. Paul. Each stone bears an inscription signifying an event, organization, person or other notable occurrence.

             The Stepping Stone has been provided through the generosity of a Club member and was placed in September of 2001. Each member of our Zonta Club was invited to express a preference for the inscription from a list of those meeting a prescribed criteria of 17 characters per line. There were six choices and the one with the most responses was selected.
