PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Where did the summer go? It seems as though it was just starting and now we are planning the President's dinner and starting to work on the Global Event Plans. We had an excellent turnout of ten members at our blanket project service activity on July 26th, . We made some very colorful blankets of varying sizes. We hope to be able to present the blankets to the Women's Advocates at our President's Dinner.

Also enclosed is the invitation for the President's Dinner, which gives all the details. Please call Dorothy with your reservations and remember, the President's dinner will be a good opportunity to invite guests including any prospective members. We are hosting the event with a French theme, taking the Cape Girardeau fall conference theme of VIVA and using it for our event and casting a French theme to our event.

Service Projects Update

A few members have asked for some more information about our service recipients. The Club approved a $2,000 grant to Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency – Club 100 which will be used to provide staff support to Club 100 and for purchase of high chairs, strollers, developmental toys and books, diapers, formula, warm clothing and bedding for clients.

A $2,000 grant was approved for Women’s Advocates, Inc. to be used for general operating expenses associated with shelter, food, clothing and personal care items for residents.

A $2,000 grant was approved for Northwest Youth & Family Services to be used for general operating support for the social workers to help individuals with various out-of-pocket emergency expenses.

We plan to invite each of the recipients to our meetings during November, December and January.

In addition to the blankets our members made at our July service meeting, we also put together a number of bags of toiletries for the Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency Club 100 clients.

We had a great time at our July service project which gave us time to visit with each other, enjoy a light meal together and make a contribution to our service organization recipients. Look for the pictures on our web site and in an upcoming issue of the Zonta Paul.
