ZONTA CLUB OF ST. PAUL
Regular Meeting

President Usher called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. She relayed information that our club has accepted the invitation to host the District Conference in October of 2002. Tentative plans are to have a co-event featuring the conference and the Global Holiday Event. The Minneapolis Club may join in the sponsorship. Exploratory efforts are in progress to have explorer Ann Bancroft as the speaker.

Minutes: The minutes of September 25, 2001 were accepted.

Treasurer's Report: The activity report for the period June 1-October 5 was presented. Assets total $11,467.22. The report will be filed for audit.

Program: Legislative update reported that Congress wishes to include date rape in the Violence Against Women Act. The December meeting will feature Mary Hirsch, a writer and stand up comedian. Guests are welcome.

Service: A presentation was made suggesting a definition of volunteer service hours. Written information was distributed including a survey to ascertain present activities of members. A suggested motion was presented and amended. M/S/P Definition of (volunteer) service ( hours) by the Zonta St. Paul Club: Zonta St. Paul is committed to Service projects, events and activities that serve to support the Zonta International objectives, mission and goals. As such, Zonta St. Paul is committed to explore and deploy service projects that raise the awareness of the status of women's issues, provide education and development to women of all cultures and ultimately advance the status of women. Zonta members are expected to volunteer hours to projects adopted by the Club. Volunteer opportunities will involve total group participation, small group participation and/or individual participation through the year.

A suggestion was made that the Finance Committee prepare a statement for consideration on club fund raising. Plans for the months of January, February and March are to provide opportunities for members on special projects. In December members are asked to contribute fresh fruit for inclusion in treat bags for the residents of WCRC. Should you be able to assist in the filling of these bags contact Judy C.

Hospitality: A new calling tree list was distributed and feedback obtained on corrections. Members will receive a new club directory next month.

Global Holiday Event: Co Chair Romelle V.H. reviewed the process, procedures and responsibilities for the event on October 25. Assignments were listed in the October Zonta Paul. Everyone is asked to share in the role as a hostess and the successful operation of the silent auction. Available members should be at the Sheraton by 2:00 PM to help with the set up. The event begins at 5:00 PM and concludes by 8:45 PM. All committees met to review their responsibilities.
Reservations to date are 161 paid with 19 potentials and 99 silent auction items. Final deadline for reservations is October 20.

Other Business: Poinsettia Fund Raiser: Carole S. and Pat R. are in charge of the activity. Informational materials were distributed. Orders submitted by November 30 will be delivered December 7 and 8. Delivery sites will be – NORTH Connie and Joann U and SOUTH TO BE NAMED. Order forms will be available for guests at the GHE. Awards: At the District Conference the club was named in two categories – United Nations and Increased Membership (25%).

Women of Afghanistan: M/S/P That the club go on record to ask Zonta International to explore what can be done to assist these women. The motion will be forwarded to our Governor.
