PEGGY'S MESSAGE

Greetings!

The Board met in May to begin planning for the 2007-08 year. Our agenda for this upcoming year will be “Celebrate St. Paul Zonta!” with an emphasis on involvement in area cultural, educational, and service projects focusing on St. Paul. We think the schedule of events will give us a wide variety of activities which will be easier for us to bring friends and prospective new members to the events. We have attempted to keep the events affordable and yet fun.

Our preliminary schedule is as follows, and in most instances, the meal cost is on your own with selection from the restaurant’s open menu:

June 26, 2007 – meeting at Judy Cognetta’s; focus will be preparing new membership folders and packets; Cost will be $20.00

July 24, 2007 – 10,000 Villages with dinner at Axel’s Bonfire (Grand and Victoria) at 5:45; Tour of 10,000 Villages will be at 7:00 p.m.

August 21, 2007 – President’s dinner at Peggy’s – Cost $20.00 with proceeds going to Convention Fund

September 25, 2007 – Minnesota Science Museum – Pompeii exhibit and IMAX film. Tickets cost approximately $20.00 and includes the special Pompeii exhibit, entry to the entire Science Museum and the IMAX theater; Dinner location to be decided, but probably will be Josephs and we can carpool from there to the Museum.

October 23, 2007 – Preview night at Park Square Theater, performance of Agnes of God; Dinner at a location near the theatre;

November 27, 2007 – Blanket making service project; Carole’s community room; Cost will be $20.00; Dinner arrangements pending.

December 11 or 18, 2007 – Holiday get-together – tentative scheduled for Dorothy’s;

January 22, 2008 – An evening of arts – planned by Carole; exact event and location to be determined

February 2008 – Joint meeting with Minneapolis Zonta at their meeting location;

March 25, 2008 – Blanket service project – location to be determined – tentatively looking at working with Women’s Advocates families and having them make blankets with us. Cost $20.00.

April 22, 2008 – Tentative service project at The Jeremiah Project with a possibility of making Mothers day baskets; Cost will be $20.00;

May 27, 2008 – Year in Review at Shirley’s home; Cost will be $20.00;

Call Dorothy with your reservations!

The President's Dinner will be held at Peggy's on Tuesday, August 21st. The dinner will start around 6 p.m. We will be sending out invitations to members with extras so guests can be invited. Our theme for the 2007 President's Dinner will be the kick-off to our Celebrate St. Paul Zonta! The invitation will include directions to Peggy's. We hope that everyone will be able to attend and will invite friends and family who have an interest in Zonta and who may be prospective members. Cost will be $20 and will go toward our convention fund.

Our membership totals 10 members as of June 1st. If you haven’t sent in your dues yet, please do so as soon as possible. The dues were due to International and District June 1st.

Spotlight! Women’s Visiting Nurses – Club 100 News

We have three young teens with potential who are in very difficult circumstances.

All three would benefit from Camp and all three families have no money. We have sent two children to camp in the past with help from the Teams. This year we have one child with severe diabetes, who could benefit from getting to know other people his age with the same problems. The other two children are siblings. Their father has left the family; the mother remarried and has twin boys with very serious medical problems. The two older siblings are dear to their mother – but are suffering from a lack of attention. There are scholarships available for all three children – we just have to find some matching funds. If each of us could contribute a little – perhaps we could make a real difference in the lives of these three children.

We also need toys for infants - anything that rattles, makes music, has a mirror – usually $6 at Target.

ACTIVITIES:

The following activities are areas in which our club did not actively participate during our last fiscal year; Italicized, bolded items are suggestions.

The Club held a program or was involved in legislative activities. Resume the legislative updates at our monthly meetings.

The Club has a literacy project and/or participated with other organizations in a literacy project. Potential for this with the Jeremiah Project.

The club has an environmental project. Any suggestions?

The club emphasized the education of women through voluntary service and/or monetary donations to scholarship funds. Awarding a scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Humboldt entering education.

The Club has a program to honor outstanding women in the community. Consider inviting to a meeting or a press release.

The Club sent applications to area schools and awarded a Young Women in Public Affairs Award and the Jane Klausman Award. Reinstate these award projects, using club reserves.

The club contributes a minimum of $6.50 per member to the Amelia Earhart Fund as recommended by Zonta International. Consider having each member to contribute a minimum amount to forward to ZI.

The club received public recognition in the media for Zonta programs or events. Press releases or notices in the paper about our activities.

The club participated in Rose Day.

The club has an action plan for recruiting members. This is a work in progress now.

The club conducts an orientation for new members. To be part of our recruitment efforts for 2007-08.

As part of our programming for the upcoming year, we need to consider the above activities that we did not participate in. Part of our focus this coming year will be on new members and implementing an action plan, so we are on track for that activity.

With good planning and not a whole lot of effort, we can make the above activities part of our goals for 2007-08 and be able to improve our scores for the annual report in 2008!

NOTE:

If you have anything that you would like included in the newsletter, please let Peggy know. I know we would all be glad to hear what is going on with you!

SEE YOU!:

See you June 26th!!
