PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Zontians,

With the weather still in the 50's, it is hard to believe it is now November, and that means we have just two meetings before our Global Event. These next few weeks will be busy ones for us as we try to sell poinsettias, collect auction items, sell tickets, and make blankets for hurricane victims. Please know that all of your efforts are appreciated, and that you are welcome to participate as best you can. If you have ideas for auction items, but would not want to make a direct contact, remember Romelle and I will be happy to follow up for you.

Blanket making for those interested and available will take place Nov. 16 at Marj Neihart's condominium at 334 Cherokee. Marj says to plan on participating between two and seven. This is a come when you can, and leave when you need to event. Bring an appetizer to share and a pair (or two) of sharp scissors. Please RSVP to Marj to let her know if you plan on participating.

Romelle and I attended Minneapolis' annual fundraiser today (Nov. 6) and enjoyed talking to Minneapolis Zontians. Each of us interested several people in buying tickets to our event. It was fun to see the variety of items, and we have a few new ideas we will try to incorporate in our auction.

We are blessed with strong recoveries from surgery for both Evelyn and Peggy, and welcome them back. I look forward to seeing all of you at our November meeting.

Enjoy this weather while we can!

                                                                                 Carole

District 7 Fall Conference Update:

The 58th Annual District 7 Conference was held on Sept 30 - Oct 2, 2005 with 90 registered Zontians and guests. The Zontians of Cape Girardeau worked very hard to insure a most enjoyable gathering.

Our district web site, zontadistrict7.org has an overview of the business of the District including our newly elected officers for the 2006 – 2008 biennium.

The highlight of the event was having our International President -elect, Olivia Ferry of the Philippines, share her thoughts and those of International President Mary Ellen Bittner.

The delegates voted a $5.00 district dues increase starting with the dues to be paid in May for the 2006 - 2007 year. The increase is necessary to compensate for the loss of members in the District. In 1990-91 our district had 949 members and in May, 2005 we had 552 members!

Our club (with under 40 members) was recognized for the following accomplishments during our 2004 - 05 year: A Gold Award for Public Relations/Communications, Silver awards for United Nations and Status of Women/Service, and a Bronze award for Organization, Membership, and Classification. Thanks to each of you for the important contribution you made to the success of this past year and for all you did to "improve the status of women" both locally and globally!

The Zontians of Atchison, Kansas invited us to attend the District Seminar in their city in the fall of 2006. The Minneapolis Zontians invited us to attend the 2007 Fall Conference in Minneapolis.

I have accepted the responsibility of District Chair for the Young Women in Public Affairs for 2006 - 08. I was the first District Chair when this program was introduced and I am looking forward to working with all the clubs again.

Thank you for electing me delegate from our club. I had a wonderful time meeting new Zontians and renewing friendships with ongoing members!
                                                                                                                                Romelle!

Many thanks for the care, concern, calls and gift from our Zonta Club members during my surgery and recovery. It is always good to know I have support from friends, when I am ill or hospitalized. I am enjoying my pretty yellow mum which was sent by our Zonta members!. Thanks so much. I enjoy your friendships.
Most sincerely,                                                                                                Evelyn

Poinsettia Sale – 2005

Plants will be available after November 15th. Linder’s has raised their prices slightly, but we will be selling them for the same price as last year. Our contact at Linder’s is Jaime Riehle. Please e-mail or call Shirley with your order. Also, forward any delivery or pick up sheet you receive from Linder’s to Shirley so that we can keep accurate records for billing purposes. Thanks for all your efforts in making this another successful sale year!

Service Projects Update and News

Blanket Making
We had one blanket making service get-to-gether in Carole’s community room on October 18th and made 7-8 blankets. Our next meeting will be November 16th at Marj’s. See President’s Message for details. These blankets will be going to Katrina evacuees.

Holiday Bags
We plan to put together Holiday Bags once again this year for our service project recipient, Club 100, Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency. Susan Anderson will ensure that they are distributed to their clients. Please bring non-perishable items to the November business meeting, such as candies, cookies, nuts, peanuts, cashews, mixed nuts, appetizer crackers, hot chocolate mix, muffin mix, socks, calendars, etc. Our holiday bags have meant a lot to the recipients who do not have the resources to add those “little extras” to their holidays. If you are unable to bring items, and wish to contribute cash, we will use it to add additional items to the bags.
Thank you all for your generous support of this project.
