October Speaker

At our October meeting, Barbara Jo Davis will be our speaker. Perhaps you’ve heard Barbara on the radio, "Hello, my name is Barbara Davis" as she promotes Ken Davis BBQ sauce. She is the owner of the company and on the board of an agency which helps women build home-based businesses to supplement their income. She will share with us her experiences as an entrepreneur and information on these other women entrepreneurs. A great opportunity to bring a guest to our meeting.

Global Event

Remember that when we meet this month, we will be very close to the deadline for dinner reservations. So, I hope that you are busy selling tickets. I think this will be a very attractive event, one that both women and men will enjoy – so expand your invitation list. Your team captains will be calling you soon for counts. You can continue to sell tickets after this deadline. The number we confirm on this deadline is the minimum number that we have committed to pay for, we can continue to increase that number. And, I hope you are gathering silent auction items, too. Think of all the places you would like to go to for dinner or a show and ask them for a gift. You will be amazed at the generosity of businesses.

Membership Recruitment Event.

We had only one guest at our Membership Recruitment Event. I hope that you will continue to invite prospects to our meetings to introduce them to Zonta.

Minneapolis Holiday Event

November 9th is the date for the annual Holiday Event for the Minneapolis Zonta Club. It will be held at International Market Square from 10:30-2:30. The entertainment this year will be the St. May Romanian Orthodox Church adult and children dance groups and music by the Ecuador Manta: Music from the Andes ensemble. If you are interested in attending, please contact Lynette Hoffman at 763-420-0989. Tickets are $30.

President Joann Usher called the meeting to order. The brag bag and sunshine tambourine were passed around. Carole announced that Pat’s radiation was completed and those numbers are in an acceptable range. It was reported that Marj was still in a lot of pain and that she will need a ride if Phyllis is not coming. No update on Mary or Kathie Pulse.

Minutes were approved as submitted. The treasurer’s report was given and approved.

District conference is in Kansas City October 10, 11 and12th. We need to select a delegate to attend and if no one from our Club can attend, we should give our proxy votes to another area club. Motion made to select Romelle and seconded with the provision that if she cannot go, then we will have a proxy. The members unanimously approved motion.

Shirley Nice submitted the audit reports for fiscal years ended May 31, 2002 and May 31, 2003. She said all the financial records were found to be in order. Motion made to accept audit reports, seconded and approved.

Global event discussion was led by Lois and Romelle. It will be held on Friday, November 21st, 2003 at the Great American History Theatre in St. Paul. The dinner will be catered by Kane’s Catering. The menu will be Chicken in a Marsala Wine Sauce, Roast beef, Red Potatoes with gravy, a green salad, rolls, butter, vegetable, cherry cobbler and coffee. Kane’s catering will be donating the cherry cobbler to the event.

Ticket and silent auction packets were passed out along with the Global Event schedule and time line of events. Ticket sales must be called in to Lois by October 28. The History Theatre needs the head county by October 30. We will be responsible for the head count submitted on that date. We can, however, add guests, but will be required to pay for the head count submitted.

Members are urged to sell 10 tickets and obtain 5 silent auction items.

We will have a member recruitment event on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Sheraton Four Points Midway (Hamline and I-94). We have reserved a poolside room and will have appetizer foods, snacks, wine and beer. The members have approved spending up to $1,000 on membership recruitment. A list was passed around with possible contacts. An e-mail will be sent to district clubs for contacts that other clubs might have with Twin citians. Everyone is encouraged to contact potential new members and invite them to the event. There will be a short Global Event update at the event.

Meeting was adjourned.
