Joann Usher PRESIDENT'S NOTES: This issue will be almost entirely dedicated to our Global Event. Please review it carefully. Also included with this mailing are your instructions for the day and information on how the silent auction will work.
Given the events of the last month, I think we are each finding it difficult to sell tickets and gather silent auction items. But, as always we will do our best and it will be a fun evening. Because, we're doing it for worthy causes.
On another note, Connie, Romelle and I will be attending the District Meeting this weekend in Fargo. While we are there, we will be discussing with Kerry Dixon-Fox, our Lt. Governor and Cathi Christopherson, Governor the plans for District Seminar 2002. The St. Paul club will be hosting that event on October 11, 12 and 13, 2002. We have suggested a different format for the weekend which would bring in more speakers to inform us on topics related to the work of Zonta locally and internationally. We hope that this will attract more Zontians to the event.
Additionally, I have had a preliminary conversation with Ann Bancroft, Arctic Explorer about the possibility of her being our banquet speaker for the Saturday evening of the Seminar. If it fits in her schedule, she is willing to do that. If the District Board approves, and if Ann is available, we are asking that the banquet be a fund-raiser. I believe that District is open to this idea, especially if we are able to get Ann Bancroft as our speaker.
If District approves that and again, if we are able to secure Ann, I have also had a conversation with Lynette Smith, President of Minneapolis Zonta to discover their interest in possibly co-hosting the banquet with us and making this the annual fund-raiser for both clubs. Thus, eliminating the need for both Minneapolis and St. Paul to plan fund-raisers in addition to our planning the District Seminar. Minneapolis is interested in this possibility.
If Ann is not available on that date, but is available on another date in October, we may still do a joint event with the Minneapolis Club. It would just be a shame not to take advantage of Ann's willingness to speak to raise money and visibility for both clubs. So, remember we're meeting on Tuesday, October 16. Bring everything you've got for the Global Event that evening. See you soon!
